To either accept or decline your admission offer to NEIU, complete the 鈥Intent to Enroll鈥 (ITE) by logging into your .
Deferring Your Admission
At NEIU, we understand that life happens and that sometimes you have to pause your academic pursuits. We offer the option to defer your admission for up to one year.
To request a deferral, please log into your l and complete the Deferment Request of Application or Admission Form.

What Is NEIUport?
Your account is your gateway to all things NEIU. You鈥檒l use this secure online portal to:
- Access your .
- Check the status of financial aid awards (if applicable).
- Look up, register and pay for classes.
- Locate forms and academic resources information.
- Inform the University about changes to your contact information.
- View your academic profile, unofficial transcript and any holds on your account.
- Check your grades and review your program progression.
Your account also grants you access to:
- : All official communications from NEIU will be sent here, so be sure to check your Nmail regularly. The password you create for NEIUport also serves as your Nmail login.
- N-Safe: Sign up for emergency notifications about University closures or security alerts. You have the option to receive these notifications via personal email or text.

- : D2L is your online learning platform where course materials, syllabi and tools will be housed. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with D2L before your classes begin to ensure a smooth start.
Activating Your Account
- Your student ID number is in the top-right corner of your admission letter and is also available on your application status portal.
- Go to NEIUport and click on the "Claim/Activate Account, Lookup ID" link.
- Enter your 9-digit NEIU ID number in the University ID field.
- Agree to receive text messages by checking the box.
- Click "Submit" and choose how you'd like to receive your PIN (via text, email or both).
- After receiving the PIN, enter it in the provided field and click "Validate."
- Create and confirm your new password, following the on-screen password rules.
- Write down your username (NetID), which is shown in the Password Rules box.
- You can now log in to NEIUport using your new username and password.

Whatever your financial situation, we recommend you apply for financial aid to help fund your graduate education and get one step closer to your goals. You may qualify for federal financial assistance if you are:
- Enrolled in a degree-seeking program
- A U.S. citizen or permanent resident (eligible non-citizen)
- Maintain Minimum Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Not in default on any student loan nor owe a repayment on any grant
To apply for federal and state student aid, please submit the as soon as possible. When applying, make sure you use NEIU鈥檚 school code: 001693.
Please note that international students are not eligible for federal or state financial aid and should not complete the FAFSA.
Additional Funding Opportunities
In addition to receiving federal aid, you can apply for need-based scholarships and merit-based scholarships to lower the cost of graduate school. Graduate Assistantships (GA) are also available in some academic units. These positions are highly competitive, but are great opportunities to enrich your graduate studies and help pay for your degree. GA positions offer a stipend and tuition waivers based on your time commitment. Discover more about financing your graduate education.
After determining how you鈥檒l pay for your graduate education, you can start planning your course load by meeting with your graduate advisor.
In your admission offer, you鈥檒l find the name of your advisor. Find their contact information on our graduate advisors list and contact them to schedule an appointment. During your meeting, you can discuss your program's requirements and plan of study to ensure you select the most appropriate courses for your first semester.
Additionally, if you plan on , your advisor can help you determine how they factor into your program requirements.

In meeting with your graduate faculty advisor, you'll chart a course to complete your program along your timeline. After settling on your courses for the semester with your advisor, they will enter your approvals, and you can .
To help maintain a healthy University community, we require all students to submit their immunization/vaccination records to Student Health Services.
Students can submit their immunization records via the or through their NEIU email to health-services@neiu.edu. For more information, please follow our detailed instructions.
Student Health Services also provides discounted vaccinations and free immunization reviews to ensure student health records are complete and up-to-date.

To confirm you have the funds to finance your education and living expenses, you need to submit your I-20 form. This form is required to secure your F-1 student visa. - Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee and Apply for Your F-1 Visa
