窪做惇蹋厙 will host a series of virtual Commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 9 to honor its Spring 2021 graduates. Plus, Psychology students and alumni presented at a national conference, NEIU Libraries are looking for student submissions for their COVID-19 archive, and there are self-care tips and virtual study sessions all next week to help students prepare for finals. Virtual Commencement

窪做惇蹋厙 will honor May 2021 graduates with a series of six virtual Commencement ceremonies, providing a fun, innovative and safe platform to celebrate the achievements of our graduates. The ceremonies will launch concurrently at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. There will be one ceremony each for the College of Arts and Sciences, the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education and the College of Business and Management. Nontraditional Degree Programs will join the College of Arts and Sciences. This years Commencement speaker will be Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza. Please visit the Commencement webpage for further details.

Several 窪做惇蹋厙 students and alumni presented their research at the , which was held virtually from April 21-24.  

  • Brian Ray (current student, Psychology major) and Mierel Rehich (B.A. Psychology 20) co-presented Office email communication: How status, tag language and gender influences perception of personality. Faculty sponsor: Amanda Dykema-Engblade

  • Gabriela Carmona (current student, Psychology major) presented Perceptions Among Latinx College Students and Their Engagement. Faculty sponsor: Amanda Dykema-Engblade
  • Rebekah Monroe (current student, Psychology major) presented Employing critical race theory to explore the effects of hegemony in U.S. curricula of undergraduate students attitudes on privileges and oppression. Faculty sponsor: Amanda Dykema-Engblade
  • Kimberly Bruckman, Juvonne Spence, and Kiran Ahsan (all B.A. Psychology 20) presented Perceptions of kindness: Exploring gender-based differences. Faculty sponsor: Maureen Erber

COVID-19 Student Archive

Whether youre graduating or completing your first semester at 窪做惇蹋厙, NEIU Libraries encourages all 窪做惇蹋厙 students to consider contributing to . Possible submissions include journal entries, artwork, photos, and audio/video files; all genres may be submitted, but a 窪做惇蹋厙 student (or students) must be the sole creator (or creators) of the donated work. Submissions should be in PDF, JPG, MP3, or MP4 formats and not exceed 1 GB. Materials should document remote learning (and work, if applicable), social distancing, recreation, and daily life under quarantine. Submissions that are accepted will be made publicly available to researchers at a future date as a digital collection. Once accepted, submissions will become part of the collections of the 窪做惇蹋厙 Archives.

  • Associate Professor of Biology Aaron Schirmer and Annick Ishami co-published an article with Benjamin Smarr of the University of California San Diego in . The data for this research was collected through a Student Center for Science Engagement project.

Annual NEIU Alumni Adopt-A-Beach Day: Foster Beach Clean Up

Join 窪做惇蹋厙s Alumni Association and fellow Golden Eagles on Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. to clean up Foster Beach. The group is meeting at the beach house for supply pick up. Please review and . This event is limited to 50 volunteers. Questions can be directed to Ashley Agron, a-agron@neiu.edu.

Self-Care: Check in

Have you taken a moment this week to check in with yourself or do a self-care activity? Taking a few minutes in the morning when you wake up to do a calming breathing technique instead of looking at your phone can go a long way. Student Counseling Services recommends the following indoor and outdoor self-care tips to check in with yourself and aid in self-care:

Student Counseling Services has also provided some tips for helping individuals manage anxiety and worry they may be feeling, and listed some important resources. Students are welcome to contact Student Counseling Services to set up an appointment to talk either by phone or their online platform for teletherapy. To access NEIUs Student Counseling Services, call (773) 442-4650 or send an email to counsect@neiu.edu between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, students may also reach a counselor for more urgent consultation by calling the main number and pressing 2 during the outgoing message.
