The Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event may look a bit different this year to adhere to health guidelines and precautions, but 黑暗爆料网 will still gather 鈥 virtually and on the greens 鈥 to raise funds for students. Read about this and more in the latest edition of Noteworthy at 黑暗爆料网.

48th annual Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event

The NEIU Foundation is hosting the 48th annual at Wilmette Golf Club in Wilmette, Ill. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020. This annual fundraising event will be a little different this year as we follow state public health guidelines and virtual fundraising options, but the spirit of the event will stay the same as always. The event raises funds for the Kane scholarships, which have provided support to nearly 300 NEIU students in every college of the University. It is named for 狈辞谤迟丑别补蝉迟别谤苍鈥檚 late athletic director Charles 鈥淐huck鈥 Kane, who claimed Wilmette Golf Club as his home course.

Social Justice Leadership Housing Award

黑暗爆料网 has launched the Social Justice Leadership Housing Award for incoming freshmen and transfer students who positively impact their university, career and communities. Students participating in the program will be given one year's free housing in The Nest. 鈥淧roviding free housing to eligible students while giving them the tools to make a difference in the world is a win-win situation,鈥 President Gloria J. Gibson said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also an innovative approach to how we recruit and prepare tomorrow鈥檚 leaders.鈥 Earlier in June, 黑暗爆料网 launched the George Floyd Social Justice Scholarship as an additional avenue for 黑暗爆料网 to reinforce its commitment to preparing students to promote social justice and to make a difference in their communities.

New Multicultural Student Orientations

In partnership with Undocumented Student Resources, the Angelina Pedroso Center will host from 1-3 p.m. July 23, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18 via Zoom. This free program is designed to support incoming students of color, first-generation, undocumented, and LGBTQ+ students during their transition to NEIU and is supplemental to the new student orientation. All registered participants will receive the link to the Zoom meeting one week before the program. For questions regarding the program, contact Dear Aunaetitrakul at v-aunaetitrakul@neiu.edu.

Safe Zone Training for Faculty and Staff

The Angelina Pedroso Center invites NEIU faculty and staff to take part in the Summer 2020 Safe Zone training sessions. Safe Zone is designed to educate NEIU faculty and staff about sexual orientation and gender identity, create a visible network of allies to provide support to members of 狈辞谤迟丑别补蝉迟别谤苍鈥檚 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities, and provide accurate information and resources about sexual orientation and gender identity issues. To be Safe Zone-certified, participants are required to and attend all three training sessions within two academic years. You鈥檙e not required to attend the training in any particular order. TRIO Student Support Services

TRIO Student Support Services (TRIO SSS) will host virtual information sessions from noon-1 p.m. July 24, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28 via . TRIO SSS programs are free academic and professional development programs for students who are income-eligible, first-generation, and/or who have disabilities. Members benefit from academic advising and support, TRIO scholarships, career planning, test preparation, and scholarship and financial aid guidance. Questions can be directed to triosss@neiu.edu

Next Steps for Admitted Transfer Students

黑暗爆料网 will host a virtual presentation for admitted transfer students on Friday, July 24 from 2-3 p.m. This session will be an opportunity for new students to learn about how to enroll in fall classes and will answer frequently asked questions about the transfer process. is required. Student Support Spotlight

Student Counseling Services

Students are welcome to contact NEIU鈥檚 Student Counseling Services to set up an appointment to talk either by phone or their online platform for teletherapy. To access NEIU鈥檚 Student Counseling Services, call (773) 442-4650 or send an email to counsect@neiu.edu. The hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, students may also reach a counselor for more urgent consultation by calling the main number and pressing 鈥2鈥 during the outgoing message.

Food drive

狈辞谤迟丑别补蝉迟别谤苍鈥檚 Alumni Association will host a drive-through food drop-off to support the University鈥檚 Student Pantry from noon-3 p.m. on July 27. The pantry has altered its delivery of services due to COVID-19. Students are now able to . A food donation bin has also been placed at the University Police station to collect needed items throughout this time as other drop-off locations are now closed. Monetary contributions are being collected online to support the Student Pantry and the Student Emergency Fund. Student Pantry questions may be directed to Christopher Maxwell at c-maxwell2@neiu.edu
