Lauren Holmes will read from and sign her newest book of short stories, “Barbara the Slut and Other People,” on Sept. 15 as part of ڰ’s .
The reading, which is free and open to the public, will take place a 3 p.m. in the Recital Hall, 3701 N. Bryn Mawr Ave.
From upstate New York, Holmes earned a B.A. from Wellesley College and an M.F.A. from Hunter College, where she was a Hertog Fellow. Her writing has appeared in literary magazines and .
The Visiting Writers Series is curated by Associate Professor of English . Erian first met Holmes at Wellesley, where Erian was a professor and Holmes a student. It was there that Holmes discovered she wanted to be a writer.
“Professor Erian sat me down, asked me if I wanted to be a writer, and told me I could be if I wanted to be and if I was willing to work really hard,” Holmes said in an interview with . “I definitely wouldn’t be doing this today if she hadn’t given me that permission.”
Now in its fourth year, the Visiting Writers Series brings nationally and internationally renowned writers to ڰ to read and engage with students and the community.
