Steven Allan Riess is a Bernard Brommel Research Professor, Emeritus,  wrote several books, including    Horse Racing the Chicago Way: Gambling, Politics, and Organized Crime, 1837-1911 (Syracuse: Syracuse University Press, 2022)  [Cited by : First of 78 Books by UChicago Faculty, Staff, and Alumni], The  Sport of Kings and the Kings of Crime:  Horse Racing, Politics, and Crime in New York, 1865-1913 (Syracuse: Syracuse University Press, 2011),  Touching Base: Professional Baseball and American Culture in the Progressive Era, Rev. 2nd ed. (Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1999),, and  The Evolution of American Urban  Society and the Rise of Sports (Urbana:  University of  Illinois Press, 1989). Chinese translation, 2019. He edited several anthologies,  the series  "Sport and Entertainment," Syracuse University Press. (1995-2015), and the  Journal of Sport History (1984-1991),. Five books were cited by Choice, a publication of the American Libraries Association as a “Book of the Year.”
