HELP RAISE FUNDS TO NAME THE JOHN MURRAY MEMORIAL GREENHOUSE

JOHN MURRAY MEMORIAL

Last winter, the ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø community lost a very important member.

John Murray served ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø for more than 27 years with diligence, elegance and class. With his own unique and tireless brand of stewardship, he embodied the mission of ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø, leading with creativity, diplomacy, direct and frequent communication and action. If you were on this campus at any time between 1995 and now, you’ve benefited from his work as the Executive Director of Facilities Management and our longtime Chief Engineer. Hopefully you also had the chance to chat with this warm and thoughtful person.

From his sphere of influence, John was always striving to make ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø a better place. He worked constantly to keep the campus infrastructure working efficiently, and sought ways to extend the learning opportunities beyond the classroom and onto the campus with ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s ideals in mind. As an environmental champion, he regularly participated in the work of the Green Fee Committee and implemented important energy savings initiatives with vision and care. He took care of NEIU.

We would like to honor the memory of John Murray and his work by naming the Greenhouse. We remember John for what he did, and a reminder of the impact we have on our students, community and each other.

One of John’s favorite places on campus was the Greenhouse. The beauty of the plants, learning opportunities for the students and employees, environmental scope and its engineering challenges embodied what John cared about.

It’s fitting to name the NEIU Biology Greenhouse in John Murray’s honor. Thank you for helping to raise $25,000 to fund that name change, and create a scholarship in his name. Thank you for helping us commemorate John Murray’s commitment to ºÚ°µ±¬ÁÏÍø and our students.
